- Public Abstract (ETD)
Theatre artistry acts as an alchemical fusion, synthesizing from the collective imagination of artists whose combined visions transform it into a living catalyst of storytelling. Lighting design is a medium that is rooted in enhancing live storytelling by means of creating a contextual visual language. Through collaboration with the entire production team, lighting helps craft stylized worlds unique to each show, heightening the reality of the story and shaping memorable stage pictures.
Graduate school has refined my understanding of meaningful collaboration as essential to impactful productions. Working closely with directors, designers, stage managers, and playwrights fosters a shared framework and language that bring cohesive stage imagery to life. I believe the most memorable theatrical moments emerge when every team member is engaged in this collaborative effort.
In my designs, I aim to push overarching themes and create emotional connections for the audience. My process combines bold color choices and carving precise lighting angles. I pay particular attention to foreground and background in order to enhance the presence of actors and reveal scenic elements. This document expands on these practices, highlighting key works from my graduate career and the unique visual styles they create.
