This translation of Birgit Mattausch’s debut novel, Until We Become Forest, represents the voicing of an often-ignored multicultural perspective in Germany. In its blending of visceral poetry with lyrical prose, this novel seeks to envelop the senses and open readers’ hearts to the working of nature magic. The preceding paratext contextualizes the novel’s historical and cultural references and primes the reader for the novel’s fractured form.
