Abstract
[C H3CH(C6H5)C(C6Hs)(CN)C H2CH2-CH3] , CI9H21N, triclinic, colorless, m.p. 366 K, P1, a =14.037(3), b = 6 . 7 0 2 ( 2 ) , c = 8 . 7 9 6 ( 2 ) A, a =104.92 (3), p = 100.27 (4), y = 88.32 (4) °, Z = 2, D m= 1-06 (5) (determined by flotation in aqueous NaBr), D x = 1.112 Mg m -3, M r = 263.39, R = [~ w(AF)2/WF2o]v2 = 0.039. The crystal is a racemic mixture of the ( 2 S , 3 S ) isomer with normal aliphatic C - C distances. The main six-carbon-atom chain has a gauche, trans,trans conformation; the two phenyl groups are in the gauche conformation.
