Abstract
In this paper, which integrates an operation research and knowledge-based approach, is developed for building of scheduling models. The tandem system captures all features of models and supports the model management. The concept of a "knowledge object" that combines production rules and object-oriented representation scheme in introduced. A model representation scheme based on the "knowledge object" is developed and provides a hierarchical, modular, and easy to understand knowledge structure of the system. The hybrid knowledge representation scheme leads to an integrated system for model representation and inference. The framework of the system, based on the object-oriented approach and blackboard model, not only integrates the qualitative and quantitative aspects of problem solving but also enhances the model management capacity.
