A regularization procedure for a simplified friction problem

Abstract
A simplified friction problem can be described by minimizing a non-differentiable functional. The non-differentiability of the functional causes difficulty when one solves the minimization problem numerically. We consider a regularization procedure to overcome the difficulty. The convergence of the procedure is proved. An a posteriori quantitative error estimate is established by employing a complementary variational principle for the simplified friction problem.
