Abstract
This case study is based on field observation of the first hands-on Internet sessions experienced by a group of lower-income minority teenagers in a inner-city middle school. Using feminist analysis to interrogate the social dynamic in which the Internet use took place, I explore how new technologies are appropriated by adolescents as a site of social bonding. I conclude that the adolescent users' social locations in terms of gender, race, & class work to constrain Internet use to support dominant relations of power. 65 References.
