Abstract

High-quality imaging with CT, US, and MRI enhances the evaluation of nail disorders, but these modalities have strengths and weaknesses. Radiography is a useful adjunct in the evaluation and diagnosis of nail diseases such as subungual exostosis and tumors such as glomus tumors and squamous cell carcinoma. The authors review normal nail anatomy with imaging correlations and illustrate a wide spectrum of nail pathologic disorders, including inflammatory, infectious, traumatic, and neoplastic conditions. Furthermore, the authors discuss dedicated imaging protocols and practical tips to optimize image acquisition and interpretation. Through detailed clinical cases and imaging examples, the authors aim to enhance diagnostic accuracy and facilitate a systematic approach to nail imaging in clinical practice.
