Abstract

A commentary discussing a violist's quest to produce accurate, clean, and scholarly transcriptions of Baroque works for solo viola, is presented. Virtually no viola solo repertoire exists in original works from the Baroque-era because it was considered to be of little importance by composers of the period, and modern trascriptions of Baroque works for solo viola are often over-edited and marked, and lack any authentic performance practices.
