Abstract
Discusses the film "Madeo" (Mother) on the occasion of its release on DVD, esp. the intersecting of genre formulas with the concerns of national cinema. Argues that the unsettling combination of erratic tone and editing as well as the confusion of past and present supports the continued denial of Korean history's official violence.
