Physicians who are disturbed that some drugs cost more than gold

can draw a little comfort from the prices their laboratory colleagues have to pay. New England Nuclear's July 1983 catalogue listed [l25I] iodoestradiol (>1300 Ci per millimole) at the (apparently) reasonable price of $242 for 10 μCi. It is not so reasonable, however, for those (apothecaries, of course) who want to buy an ounce; at that price it would cost a minimum of $2,468,691,574,784. Before you rush out to buy some, you would be well advised to decide precisely what you want to do with . . .
