Abstract
An expert system may be combined with algorithms to solve the complex group technology (GT) problem. This approach allows consideration of the most complex formulations of the GT. Group technology arranges together similar parts into parts families, and machines into machines cells. It allows the breakdown of a manufacturing system into smaller subsystems.
