Assessing International Chinese Language Teachers' Second Language Acquisition Theoretical Foundation and Language Pedagogy

Abstract
This study presents a model for the assessment of international Chinese language teachers' second language acquisition theoretical foundation and language pedagogy. We begin with a discussion on the connection between second language acquisition theory and language pedagogy and the importance of assessing these two constructs concurrently in the assessment procedure. Attention is devoted to the development of the assessment criteria, assessment items, and assessment techniques, and to the theoretical justifications for the development of these three components. Results of an empirical study aiming to investigate the reliability of the assessment criteria are then reported. The paper ends with the washback effect analysis of the assessment model.
