Abstract
Buck looks at the evidence about CPR in older adults. He also offers two key points from the evidence: Older adult patients and families need more information to make informed choices concerning resuscitation. Although ultimately the decision is theirs, they're waiting for them to initiate the conversation. In conclusion, as people live to an older age in relatively good health, they want the chance to extend their lives. As nurses, they must educate, support, and advocate for their patients as they face this critical choice. While they as nurses might like black-and-white answers to give to their patients and families related to resuscitation, what they really need to give them is evidence-based information, supportive listening, and a willingness to respect their choices.
