Abstract
The Year in Cardiothoracic Transplant: Lung Transplantation in 2021 focuses on the recent research this year, including the assessment, optimization, and selection of candidates for lung transplantation (LTX), donor optimization, the use of organs from donation after circulatory death (DCD) donors, the use of ultrasound to assess donor lung function, and outcomes utilizing marginal donors, as well as recipient factors affecting LTX, including age, disease, the use of extracorporeal life support, and COVID-19. The remainder of the article focuses on the perioperative management of LTX, including antirejection strategies, as well as recent multi-organizational recommendations on the care of these patients.
