Abstract
The Tang daqu integrates singing, dancing, and instrumental music and consists of three sequences: the sanxu (beginning random sequence facilitated by instrumental music), zhongxu (middle sequence composed primarily by singing), andpo (fast exposition accelerated primarily by dancing). According to Zhou Li (The Zhou Rites), Fang Xiang Shi wears a mask of bearskin with four eyes of gold, a black jacket, and a red skirt, grasping a lance and brandishing a shield, to conduct the seasonal Nuo rite, leading one hundred slaves into houses and tombs to chase away pestilences, ghosts, and spirits.
