Abstract
•Clinical simulation is needed to provide education and assessment of caring for complex patients with advanced practice nursing students.•Clinical simulation of how to consult with a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner within a primary care milieu is an important teaching strategy.•Clinical simulation done across campus can be effective utilizing telehealth strategies.•Cross campus clinical simulation can be helpful in exposing advanced practice nursing students to clinical scenarios that may not be available locally.
Telehealth is a vital skill for providing access to care, cost-effective quality care, and intraprofessional collaboration. As more schools of nursing move toward online education, the concern is how to effectively train nurse practitioner students with telehealth knowledge and skills. Simulation can prepare students to develop these needed skills and to use telehealth effectively through innovative experiential learning opportunities. To overcome these educational challenges an intraprofessional pilot telehealth simulation was implemented to evaluate nurse practitioner students' knowledge, skills, and clinical abilities between universities.
