Abstract
Work conducted in the past year that is relevant to our understanding of cochlear function is reviewed. The active process centered around the motile action of the outer hair cells is the focus of much of the work. Topics include basilar membrane motion, hair-cell function, auditory nerve-fiber responses, otoacoustic emissions, efferent function, and hair-cell regeneration.
