Abstract
Many of the epidemiologic risk factors for the development of breast cancer are related to major events in the female reproductive experience. Several years ago, in an attempt to synthesize these observations, we proposed a theory that focused on abnormal corpus luteum function as a major endocrine determinant of breast cancer risk. This review summarizes the work that has been done attempting to substantiate or refute that hypothesis and reconsiders it in the light of more recent information. © 1982 Martinus Nijhoff Publishers.
