Abstract

Individual health behaviors are largely culturally patterned. Effective health teaching evolves from culture assessment and negotiation of the identified health needs. Culturally appropriate patient education consists of developing, implementing, and evaluating a culturally appropriate teaching program that includes both the individual and the individual's social support system.
