Abstract

The crystal and molecular structure of trans,trans-9,10-bis(4-pyridylethenyl)anthracene (1) is reported. Crystal data for 1 (190 K): monoclinic, space group P21/c, a = 7.581(1) Å, b = 5.669(1) Å, c = 22.680(2) Å, β = 95.595(5)°, V = 970.1(2) Å3, with calculated density of 1.32 g/cm3 for Z = 2. The molecule in the solid state forms one-dimensional ribbons, which are organized within two-dimensional sheets.
