Abstract

The importance of phase-space resolving diagnostics for understanding collisionless and weakly collisional plasma is illustrated with three examples. The first example is the problem of understanding the plasma ion response to an external periodic excitation. The second example is the description of the ion density two-point correlation function. The final example is a new technique for measuring the electron velocity distribution function in low-temperature plasmas. © 2006 IEEE.
