Abstract
he effects of norepinephrine on arterial pressure and plasma concentration of NEFA (nonesterified fatty acids) were compared in dogs before and after administration of cocaine. Increments in plasma NEFA concentration as well as in arterial pressure in response to norepinephrine were found to be increased significantly. Eliminating hepatic circulation did not block the potentiation indicating that reduced hepatic uptake of NEFA cannot entirely explain the augmenting effects. The augmentation was not due to a cumulative effect of norepinephrine since 2 consecutive infusions of the catecholamine without cocaine did not produce potentiation.
