Abstract
A general method is presented for determining the exact expansions of a tensor function , where is a second order tensor in n-dimensional Euclidean space, and is defined by the power series. It is shown that can be obtained by differentiating a scalar function of the eigenvalues of . Using this method, closed-form, singularity-free expressions of arbitrary tensor functions and their first derivatives are deduced in two- and three-dimensional cases.
