This article is an executive summary of a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia Surveillance Definition Working Group, entitled “Developing a New, National Approach to Surveillance for Ventilator-associated Events” and published in Critical Care Medicine (Magill SS, et al., Developing a new, national approach to surveillance for ventilator-associated events, Crit Care Med 2013;41:2467–2475).
