Factors affecting learning and intrusion rates in a multiple-choice verbal transfer task

Abstract
In each of 2 experiments pre- and postshift response dominance level were varied and in each it was found that a higher mean number of errors occurred when the response to be learned was low in dominance level than when it was high. In Exp. I 64 students gave confidence ratings of their responses, and it was found that over 1/2 of all postshift errors were represented by overt intrusions but that less than 50% of these intrusions were rated as correct. In Exp. II 3 groups of 16 students each received different information and instructions regarding the response-shift operation. These groups did not differ significantly on mean number of errors or intrusions.
