Abstract
•GWAS analysis of the COPDGene study showed several top hit SNPs.•Genes nearest top hit SNPs are associated with depression in the literature.•Such genes showed potential association with neurotransmitter networks.•The genes are expressed together in the brain, especially in the basal ganglia.•The COPDGene study provides future opportunities to study genetic risk factors of depression among smokers.
