Abstract

Robinson proposes a new approach to the history of the modern age--one that understands the metaphor of the modern period as one plagued by an autoimmune disorder. A great part of the history, literature, philosophy and art produced since the French Revolution has amounted to an obsessive iteration of aversion and dread.
