Hip Arthroscopy for Cam-type Femoroacetabular Impingement

Abstract
Cam deformity represents a common cause of femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome, a disorder that can result in irreversible damage to the labrum and articular cartilage and accelerate hip degeneration. Workup must include a thorough evaluation with physical exam, radiographs, MRI, and 3D CT imaging to appropriately characterize impingement and plan appropriate surgical correction. Surgical management with arthroscopic femoral head-neck osteochondroplasty can alleviate femoral bony impingement and is often performed alongside other arthroscopic procedures to the labrum, articular cartilage, and other sources of impingement including the acetabular rim and subspine. Intraoperative fluoro should be used extensively to identify the extent of the deformity and appropriately correct femoral head-neck offset while maintain head-neck sphericity without over-resecting the femoral neck. We review relevant literature and the senior authors preferred technique for arthroscopic treatment of cam-type femoroacetabular impingement. (c) 2020 Published by Elsevier Inc.
