Abstract
Ninety-four undergraduate volunteers monitored their study behaviors for a psychology class. They were assigned to one of six experimental conditions in which there were two target behaviors: amount of time .studied for the class and amount of time the subjects felt they should be studying when they weren't, and three methods of self-monitoring: note cards, graph paper, and note cards plus graph paper. Those students who monitored their study behavior using a combined methodology achieved significantly higher final examination scores than those who used a single methodology. Implications for improving students' examination performance through self-monitoring are discussed.
