Abstract

Modeling of airway wall mechanics has recently led to major new insights about the complex behavior of airways during asthma attacks. These advances transformed the concept of airway interdependence from local static relationships to parallel and serial dynamic interactions that describe the behavior of airways embedded in the bronchial tree. A recent study demonstrated that several paradoxical experimental results could be explained with an advanced model that allows the exploration of promising new therapeutic approaches. Steven C.
