Abstract
The present study evaluated the effect of heating on the physicochemical properties of BC Sealer ion+® (BC), EndoSequence BC Sealer HiFlow® (HF), and NeoSEALER EZFlo® (NE).
Samples were divided into heated (H) and unheated (NH) groups, with the H-group subjected to 100 °C for 1 minute. Flow, setting time, and solubility were evaluated according to ISO and ANSI/ADA standards. Calcium release was measured using ICP-MS, as well as the magnesium release by BC sealer. Chemical composition was analyzed using EDS, and pH was measured after 3, 24, 48, and 168 hours in distilled water. Data were analyzed with ANOVA and Tukey tests (p<0.05).
Heating significantly increased the initial setting time of BC and the flow of NE (p<0.05). Solubility did not meet ADA standards and was not affected by heating, as well as the calcium release (p>0.05). No magnesium was detected in the BC solution. Chemical differences were observed between the H and NH groups. All sealers presented alkaline pH at all time points, which was not influenced by heating.
In conclusion, heating altered specific properties-initial setting time of BC and flow of NE-without affecting solubility, calcium release, or pH.
