Abstract
With the news wires literally singing out across all the oceans, the topic of increasing concern has been the advances in the construction of Information Highways. Touted as being the multimedia wave of the future which will soon be integral to homes across the United States and beyond, early 'versions' of such technology have been France's Minitel, the CNDP's Éducâble, the use of QUBE-TV in the North American Midwest, and others. This paper describes current efforts related to the building of the Information Highway systems and some of the present players. An additional scenario describes what one United States firm, Busch Entertainment Corporation, is doing. While not integral to the Information Highway being described, their Shamu TV™ series fulfils an interesting link between the available education-based technology of today and of the future. It is clearly a testament to some of the alternative uses of the 'highway' and what will be needed to make it happen. Finally, attention is paid to the impact of the Information Highway on education and how it will be delivered to all grades and ages.
