Abstract
We focus on transient period monitoring and adjustment of systems undergoing a startup operation (e.g., a new production run or resuming production after shut-down, etc.). We design an integrated process control mechanism based on a proportional-integral (PI) controller and a moving center-line exponentially weighted moving average (MCEWMA) chart. We apply this design to autocorrelated data that represents a noisy dynamic system that has a startup effect over several time periods. Using simulation, we explore the capability of this design to improve system performance during the startup and comment on its potential to impact economic factors.
