Abstract
Background: Electronic Health Records (EHR) are widely used in clinical practice; however, prelicensure nursing students often lack hands-on experience, particularly with high-risk procedures such as blood administration. Method: This project describes an academic-practice partnership that integrates EHR access into simulation education and explores student confidence across 3 phases of instruction. Students received didactic instruction on blood administration and applied this knowledge during simulation using an EHR. Results: Survey results indicated that student confidence initially declined after the low-fidelity simulation but increased after high-fidelity. Responses highlighted improved skills in barcode scanning and documentation. Students valued the realism of EHR and expressed appreciation for hands-on practice. They also suggested expanding EHR use, such as incorporating lab results. Conclusion: Integrating EHR into simulations fosters students' confidence and clinical readiness. Academic-practice partnerships can reduce resource barriers and provide meaningful learning experiences that prepare students for technology-enriched clinical environments.
