Abstract
The field of Language Planning and Policy (LPP) has come a long way since Haugen coined the term language planning (Haugen 1959) and the field's founders set about the task of developing language planning theories, concepts and models (e.g. Rubin and Jernudd 1971). In this issue, Blommaert refers to this early work as "Fishmanian" language policy, simultaneously coining a new word and signifying the important contribution that Joshua Fishman has made to the field, both as a scholar and as an editor of the International Journal of the Sociology of Language (IJSL). Since the early 1970s, under the leadership of Fishman, IJSL has been at the forefront of publishing LPP scholarship, and so it is with great respect that we go forward.
