Abstract
In this paper we briefly review the life and career of Professor Jerry L. Norman and then allow him to tell us in his own words his major views and perspectives on the historical development of Chinese, and his hopes for the ways these might be probed and elucidated by future generations of Chinese dialectologists and historical linguists. 本文將簡單地介紹名語言學和漢學家羅杰瑞先生的生平與學術成就。並依 羅氏書信來闡述其對漢語史的看法，以及其對漢語歷史語言學的展望。
