Abstract
Lasidiol angelate, a new sesquiterpenoid containing a carotane skeleton, has been isolated from Lasiantheae fruticosa (Compositae). A structure was proposed on the basis of spectral evidence and confirmed by a synthesis which achieves oxidation a to the less substituted terminus of a trisubstituted double bond by a double-reverse strategy. The natural products and several of the synthetic compounds are potent ant repellents. © 1981, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
