Abstract
The field of therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) has expanded significantly in the past 2 decades, thanks in part to the invention and wide use of lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMS). LAMS are used as alternatives to surgical or interventional radiological procedures, and yield excellent outcomes. Initially, their use was limited to management of various types of pancreatic fluid collections, including walled-off necrosis or pseudocysts. In recent years, the indications have expanded to biliary drainage, particularly in cases of malignant bile duct obstruction. LAMS are also used in gastric outlet obstruction and to access bile duct in patients with surgically altered anatomy. This clinical review aims to briefly expand on these indications and discuss the supporting literature for use of LAMS.
