Abstract

MR angiography (MRA) provides a versatile, radiation-free approach for evaluation of the mesenteric vasculature offering contrast-enhanced and noncontrast techniques tailored to clinical needs. Advances in hardware, pulse sequences, acceleration methods, and contrast agents have improved spatial and temporal resolution and diagnostic confidence. Mesenteric MRA can be used for vascular mapping, abdominal organ transplant evaluation and assessment of dynamic vascular compression syndromes, chronic mesenteric ischemia, vasculitis, vasculopathy, and mesenteric aneurysms. This article provides a comprehensive review of current mesenteric MRA techniques, protocol considerations, comparative advantages and limitations, and key clinical applications, and highlights its role as an alternative to CT angiography.
