Abstract
Geopolymers are low‐cost inorganic materials often used as traditional ceramics in building construction, among other cementing applications. After being considered traditional ceramics for several decades, previous works from our group demonstrated that geopolymers exhibit unique advanced properties, including piezoelectricity, piezoresistivity, and memristive properties. In this work, we focus on the piezoresistive properties of geopolymers to develop low‐cost tactile sensors. Geopolymer sensors were fabricated and experimentally characterized. A pressure sensitivity of −2.91 kPa−1 and a resolution of 3.5 kPa were measured. Additionally, a 4 × 4 flexible and wrappable geopolymer tactile sensor array was fabricated by embedding geopolymers inside an elastomer matrix and using flexible PCB (printed circuit board). This device holds significant promise for tactile sensing of flexible and compliant structures, including soft robots.
