Abstract
This edition of the Review and Commentary section focuses on Girls' Studies and the media. It opens with a forum hosted by Sharon R. Mazzarella who has brought together an international interdisciplinary group of experts to provide a series of essays offering insights on approaches to Girls' Studies and the discipline's application to children's media. The essays reflect upon a range of topics from methodological challenges, to controversies about content, to suggested new directions for research. The collection presents an analysis of past and current accomplishments in this domain and proposes thought‐provoking perspectives into the needs for the future. The series of essays is followed by a review, written by Norma Pecora, of Mary Celeste Kearney's book, Girls Make Media, a publication that, itself, makes a contribution to the field of Girls' Studies. Together, the forum and review add meaningful commentary to a topic of timely relevance to children and the media.
