Abstract
Originally entitled Adagio and Rondo, Felix Mendelssohn's Serenade and Allegro giojoso, op. 43 underwent substantial revision before its publication a year after his performance for a concert in Leipzig in 1838. The transitions it went through and its comdpositional history is explained.
