Abstract
Advances in the chemical and material sciences have made a dramatic impact on sporting events over the past several decades. In this paper, we focus on the game of golf and provide some of the chemicals and materials involved in these advances with the intention of providing a mechanism to interest students in chemistry. Further we propose that modern materials have led to significant changes in the set of skills and abilities required to excel at the highest level of the game (PGA—Professional Golfers Association). Structures and properties of some materials that led to their adoption in sports are presented.
