Abstract
Describes the multimedia scenarios already existing in the University of Iowa Libraries Arcade to illustrate the number of copyright holders whose work is involved in the use of the high technology classroom and describes attempts in the USA to establish fair use principles for the guidance of faculty. Focuses on the disagreements in the 1994-1997 discussions of the Conference on Fair Use and presents the Association of Research Libraries' summaries of concerns expressed by various bodies objecting to the guidelines produced by the Consortium of College and University Media Centers (CCUMC). Using 3 imaginary cases, illustrates the practical ramifications of adhering to the CCUMC guidelines and lists URLS for information on multimedia and fair use.
