Abstract
The presence of nitrous oxide in the dental office can be a danger to those predisposed to misuse drugs. A dentist who chronically self-administered nitrous oxide had progressive paresthesia, sensory loss, and weakness.
The chronic misuse of nitrous oxide by self-administration may result in serious myelopathy or neuropathy. In this instance, a dentist primarily had a myelopathy. The symptoms are reversible if the habit is discontinued.
