Abstract
A theory for treating the simultaneous absorption and chemical reaction of SO2 into water droplets falling in a non-uniform temperature field is presented. The analysis includes non-isothermal effects on droplet growth, reaction rates and physical parameters, and treats multicomponent diffusion. The model can predict droplet radius, temperature, pH and SO2 · H2O. HSO3− and S(IV) interfacial and bulk concentrations. Simulation results are presented and indicate that non-isothermal effects can be important in gas-scavenging calculations.
