Abstract

Issues concerning the nature of rock music critics in North America are examined, focusing on an arguably dominant ideology of criticism that favors traditionally masculine values over traditionally feminine. Topics include the history of rock and roll, concepts of ideology, the manner in which the ideology of rock criticism includes or excludes musical voices, and an analysis of the Village Voice critics' poll.
