ABSTRACT
Changes in pharmaceutical marketing channels have led drug wholesalers and pharmaceutical manufacturers to search for ways to control their costs. One approach is to form strategic partnerships with each other. A mail survey of wholesalers and manufacturers assessed their interest in and the difficulty in implementing 26 potential opportunities for strategic partnership. Seven opportunities of high interest to both groups were identified. Other opportunities were classified as high wholesaler interest only (9 items), high manufacturer interest only (6 items), and low interest to both (4 items). Implications of the findings for wholesalers and manufacturers are discussed.
