Abstract
This report describes a series of studies undertaken at Group Health Cooperative of Puget Sound designed to improve informed decision making about hormone replacement therapy for large populations of women in midlife who are served by managed care organizations. Women aged 45–80 years and their health care providers were the focus of separate studies. Health care systems need to provide access to high-quality provider counseling, continuous support in updating providers on the evolving evidence base, and clearly written, unbiased, tailored information for women based on the accumulated scientific evidence.
