Abstract
A comment on Kazuo Yamaguchi (1996 [see abstract 9610433]) argues that the empirical support in his theory of power in social exchange networks is flawed in four ways: (1) internal theoretical contradictions, (2) arbitrary parameter values, (3) misrepresentations of the published evidence, & (4) failed empirical tests. It is suggested that Yamaguchi's predictions are inconsistent with results from experimental studies of power in exchange networks &, when corrected s-values are used, the model fits none of the available data. It is claimed that alternative theories, eg, network exchange theory, produce more accurate predictions. 2 Tables, 1 Figure, 13 References. C. Haywood
